Saturday night came to life at Greater Fort Clarke Missionary Baptist Church (GFCMBC) on April 12 at 5 o’clock. The weather was perfect, as the church celebrated its first Night-In-White. The special occasion, innovation of Pastor Stacey Graham, was a phenomenal success, as he flawlessly mastered moderating the history-making program.
All in attendance, members and visitors alike, dressed from top to bottom in summer white attire. Dazzling maxi dresses, linen suits and stylish fashions to fit the early evening affair, emphasized the theme of the night – Lent. During Lent, Christians focus on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
As guests were seated, ushers handed them a small wooden cross that read, “Here’s a little wooden cross to hold onto while you pray. It will remind you daily of what HE did to help you find your way.”
The hour-long program followed scripture, as presented by the deacons of GFCMBC. Deacon Andre Daniels, Sr., defined The Power of Prayer; Deacon Lonnie Scott defined The Power of Fasting; and, Deacon Willie Williams defined The Power of Almsgiving.
The GFCMBC choir delivered spiritual transitional songs between the readings as the congregation experienced a renewing of understanding and appreciation of the celebration.
Pastor Standley Gillings of Ocala delivered a powerful message suited for the occasion. The crowd, in all its glory, favored full support of his spirited message. The scripture-based sermon was uplifting, thoughtfully prepared with stories for living a purposeful and productive faith-based life.

Pastor Graham and his convoy of Deacons performed, “Salvation’s Story: The Walk to Crucifixion,” as member Dr. Barbara Henry affectionately read the spiritual narrative. The powerful visual of Pastor Graham and his orderly Deacons carrying the cross down the middle isle of the church and through the front doors was a silent breathtaking reminder of the crucifixion.
Afterwards, Pastor Graham delivered the benediction and invited all to mingle in Fellowship Hall, where a to-go pack of chicken salad, drink and dessert was provided.
